Soap For Hope Canada
Soap for Hope Canada provides hygiene amenities and linens to Community Facilities that support marginalized people within our community. This includes shelters, transitional homes, food banks, schools, and seniors’ facilities. We also send hygiene products to remote communities across BC and Alberta. We work with hotels to collect their used hygiene amenities, and our amazing volunteers reprocess these amenities to provide products you never would have knows were destined for the landfill. Prior to 2016, our Executive Director, Anne McIntyre, was collecting lightly or unused hygiene products from hotels to send overseas in Disaster Aid kits when she asked herself if there was a need for these soaps here in Victoria. She quickly discovered that the answer was not only yes, but many shelters had no budget for hygiene products. This means that if they need to buy soap, then this money had to be diverted from food or other essential programs. Since 2016, we have grown to service over 491 community facilities in B.C. By diverting hygiene products such as shampoos, bar soaps and lotions that would normally be part of the landfill, we have been able to help individuals regain their dignity and health while protecting the environment.
