Position: Board Members at Large
Location: 234 Menzies Street, Victoria, BC, Canada
Impact Statement: The Victoria Lesbian Seniors Care Society supports the health and social needs of women-identified and lesbian-identified women of all ages on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. We commit ourselves to building a greater involvement in the wider community, including students, professionals within health care, as well as all members of the LGBTQ international community and allies.
Description: Board members at large quickly gain a good working knowledge of what the VLSCS offers to the community, then sees where they would like to contribute, and then offers their time to assist. This could be in our varied activities such as Movie Team, Coffee Talk, lesbian dances and grand Galas, or involvement in Education, Outreach, Fundraising, Networking, Membership drives, or assisting with the Volunteer coordinator with putting together work parties, training, or trade shows. Board members at large can pair up with other teams on a temporary or on a permanent basis, as desired. Work that has not yet been initiated, too, can be an option where the board member at large sees the need.
Training Details: Training is on the job. Board members at large possess a creative knack at seeing where it is that work is most needed and where it is they can contribute.
Working Conditions: Remotely and attendance at the monthly board meetings. Meetings take place at the James Bay New Horizons Activity Centre for two hours on a weeknight, typically a Wednesday, and the venue is wheelchair accessible and clean.
Minimum Duration: 7 - 12 months
Timing: Weekday - Evening, Anytime
Time Detail: Time detail for these positions are varied because it depends on the board member at large and how much time they themselves choose to put into activities.
