Position: Point in Time Survey Volunteer - Point In Time Homelessness Survey 2018

Impact Statement: By volunteering for the Point in Time (Pit) count you will help gather information that will assist planners, funders and agencies develop appropriate responses to homelessness in our region as well as measure progress in ending homelessness.
Description: The PiT count involves conducting a brief, anonymous survey with people who are experiencing homelessness. Survey volunteers will work in assigned teams under the leadership of someone with experience in the field. Volunteers need to be fluent in English or French. Fluency in a second language is an asset.

The count is conducted in shelters and also out-of-doors, walking around a specific area or neighborhood including:

Area 1: James Bay, Beacon Hill, Holland Park and South of Burdett to Southgate, Ross Bay, Fairfield, Oak Bay
Area 2: Downtown Core –South of Yates to Burdett/Belleville
Area 3: Downtown Core – South of Bay to Yates
Area 4: Fernwood/Jubilee
Area 5: Hillside/Mayfair
Area 6: Vic West & Burnside-Gorge
Area 7: Cuthbert Park & Esquimalt
Area 8: Saanich
Area 9: West Shore
Training Details: Each volunteer must attend a two-hour training session and must be 19 years of age or older.
Working Conditions: Volunteers surveying in shelters and on the street need to be able to stand and walk for up to 2 hours. Accommodations can be made for volunteers who are unable to meet this criterion.

Volunteers will be given a surveyor supply kit, which includes flashlights, vests, public transit tokens, clipboards, pens and identification. We encourage all volunteers to bring a cellphone.
Minimum Duration: Special event
Timing: Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
Time Detail: Volunteers are asked to complete 3-hour shifts.
The sheltered survey shifts are from 11am to 2pm, 1pm to 4pm, 3pm to 6pm, 7pm to 10pm, or 9pm to 12am

The unsheltered survey shifts are from 4pm to 7pm, from 6pm to 9pm, or from 8pm to 11pm
