Position: Event Volunteer - Community Wassail - Banfield Commons Community Wassail
Location: 521 Craigflower Road, Victoria, BC, Canada
Impact Statement: Volunteers work on projects that strengthen production, consumption, and access to food that is safe, nutritious, affordable, locally produced and environmentally and economically sustainable.
Description: Wassailing refers to a traditional ceremony that involves singing and drinking to the health of trees on Twelfth Night in the hopes that they might better thrive. The purpose of wassailing is to awaken the cider apple trees and to scare away evil spirits to ensure a good harvest of fruit in the autumn. Volunteers will provide day of assistance for the Food Security Collectives Community Wassail, including, set –up, take down, and food preparation.

Position Responsibilities:
• Food Preparation
o Assist in preparation of food (heat soup, slice bread, heat apple cider )
o Set -up of tables, tents, food, beverages
o Food service during the event
• Set-up / Take-down
o Lift and stack chairs
o Assist with putting up decorations
Training Details: Training will be provided the day of the event.
Working Conditions: Outdoors
Minimum Duration: Special event
Timing: Weekend - Daytime
Age: 10+
