Position: Light Up the Hills Festival Volunteer - Light Up the Hills
Location: Belmont Secondary School, Langford Lake Road, Victoria, BC, Canada
Impact Statement: The West Shore Arts Council serves the residents of five communities: Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Metchosin and Highlands, which form part of the CRD on Vancouver Island. The population in our area is currently close to 100,000 and expected to double over the next twenty years. The WSAC is the lead advocate for public understanding of, participation in and appreciation of the arts, culture and heritage and their valuable contribution to a vibrant community.
September 23 marks the second annual Light Up the Hills festival, a family-friendly celebration of local music, art, performance, and light! Volunteer participation is essential to the success of this event. There are many roles that need to be filled, including tasks leading up to and during the event, and roles suitable for both individuals and groups.
Description: There are several positions that need to be filled. Visit www.westshorearts.org or click on the attached volunteer package for full details.
1) Small groups of volunteers will be tasked with illuminating a defined area along the pathway. We encourage you to get creative! A fun activity for friends or families!
2) A group of volunteers is required to set up the lantern-making area near Belmont School. Tents, tables, chairs, lighting, and craft materials will be assembled and organized, allowing for participants to decorate lanterns to carry during the event.
3) We need help directing participants, handing out programs, and answering general questions during the event.
4) We need creative volunteers to help guide participants in making lanterns during the event!
5) Event take down.
Training Details: Volunteers will receive a short orientation before the event, as well as an event information package.
Working Conditions: Outdoor festival. The event pathway has some sloped areas. If there is a mobility concern, there are more stationary positions that can be offered.
