Special Olympics BC - Victoria
The largest Local on Vancouver Island, Special Olympics BC – Victoria runs sports and youth programs that serve over 200 athletes in Victoria and surrounding areas. Through our programs, athletes with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to be active year-round and develop their athletic and social skills by training in a supportive and caring environment. Our dedicated team of coaches and program volunteers help to tailor practices to all skill levels, and our Local is always excited to advocate for athletes who have a desire to compete at the Regional level and support those who qualify for Provincial, National, and World competitions.
SOBC – Victoria is powered by a robust network of volunteers and community partners who make it possible for athletes to engage in sporting activity throughout the year with minimal costs.
The programs run by SOBC Locals in up to 17 sport and youth programs give athletes the chance to gain sport skills and improve their health while enjoying training that could take them to competitions at local, regional, national, and international levels. But the benefits from Special Olympics BC programs go well beyond the basics: Our athletes experience joy and acceptance, cultivate friendships and self-confidence, and feel empowered to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.
