Victoria Women's Transition House Society
Established in 1975, Victoria Women's Transition House Society (VWTH) provides emergency shelter, counselling and support services for women of all ages, with or without children, fleeing from intimate partner violence and abuse. The heart of our organization is our 18-bed Emergency Shelter, a secure, purpose-built house located in a friendly Victoria neighbourhood in a confidential location. The Shelter provides safe accommodation and support services for women and their children for up to 30 days. More than just a place to stay, the Shelter offers crisis counselling and safety planning for women and their children as well as access to community resources, daily meals, childcare and child activities, emergency clothing and basic daily living and hygiene supplies. In addition to shelter services, Transition House staffs a 24-hour Crisis & Information Line as well as a variety of counselling and support services for women, specialized programs for older women and for children who have witnessed domestic violence and abuse. The organization also has a third-stage, supportive, transitional housing for older women, and serves more than 2,000 women and 150 children each year from across Greater Victoria.
