Universal Jazz Advocates and Mentors (UJAM)
The U-JAM Society is a not-for-profit society that advocates, mentors, educates, and acts as a resource for the community of jazz listeners and musicians in the Greater Victoria area. It began in 2004 and has evolved now to organize multiple programs each year. During the school year, we offer the Young All-Stars program, a Saturday school run under the tutelage of two professional jazz musicians who love teaching. September through May, we hold monthly Club Nights at Hermann’s Jazz Club where vocalists and instrumentalists have the chance to perform to a friendly crowd, backed by a fabulous, supportive quartet. Summer brings our annual Jazz Workshop where 80 or so participants in their teens to their 80’s hone their technical and performance skills with the help of 20 or so professional musicians.
