Do you have experience teaching English to non-native speakers? Contact us to find out more about this exciting volunteer opportunity! Support English language learners of all ages remotely or in person through our English Conversation Groups or 1:1 tutoring. VLC uses a learner-centered approach, collaborating with the learner(s) about their unique goals and challenges. Participants may come to VLC with varying English skills, and the tutor will adapt strategies to meet their needs. Reporting to the program coordinator, the volunteer tutor will submit Quarterly Reports and regular check-ins. 1:1 matches will arrange their own schedules. Group sessions meet either for classes twice per week for 6-8 weeks, or once per week for drop-in practice. Volunteers agree to abide by all VLC policies and guidelines. |
Training Details | Orientation and ongoing support is provided by VLC. |
Working Conditions | Remote or in-person. Remote sessions require a computer with camera capable of hosting Zoom sessions, and a strong, reliable internet connection. In-person 1:1 sessions happen in a public space (e.g. VLC office, library, etc.). Drop-in groups happen at VLC. |

Time Detail | For 1:1 tutoring the schedule will be set between the learner and tutor - generally 1-2 sessions/week for an hour ongoing. Group lessons are twice per week for 6-8 weeks. Drop-in practice sessions are weekly ongoing. |
