Organization | Victoria Disability Resource Centre |
Position | Social Media Coordinator |
Impact Statement |
The Victoria Disability Resource Centre (VDRC) aims to promote the independence of persons living with all forms of disabilities, and at the heart of this are our wonderful volunteers. The Volunteer Skills Development Program offers a wide range of opportunities for individuals to develop valuable skills and practices associated with office administration and customer service that many prospective employers look for in job applicants. This is done by providing volunteers with real-life experiences in an office environment. The experience of volunteering promotes leadership, addresses life skills training, strengthens self-esteem and, enables persons with disabilities to experience a more independent lifestyle. In many cases, it provides individuals with the knowledge, skills, experience and confidence to become employed, ultimately participating to a greater degree in the life of the community. |
Description |
This is a volunteer position, and our desired candidate is not required to possess a formalized education or background in social media or marketing (although this would be an asset). We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive, and willing to work well within our small team at the VDRC to improve our ability to reach our membership. This position would be ideal for someone with a keen interest in developing their social media experience in a professional work environment while contributing positively to a local non-profit organization with a large membership base. Some of the main tasks are researching Internationally recognized days/weeks/months as related to disability and/or discrimination; developing monthly ‘campaigns’; putting together monthly schedules for posting; etc. See downloadable PDF for more detail. |
