About the Position
Position # 3165
OrganizationElderDog South Vancouver Island Pawd
Position Volunteer Dog Walkers in Greater Victoria - Dog Care Support
Impact Statement ElderDog matches volunteers with seniors who need help walking their dogs.

Very quickly after being matched with a senior and their dog, you will realize the difference you are making in their lives. You are helping to ensure the health and well-being of their most cherished companion. Many of our volunteers and seniors forge very special friendships. For some of our isolated seniors, we become the social highlight of their day and a good chat always ensues. In some cases, volunteers are able to identify potential issues that a senior is facing and notify the family.

We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated, committed adults (18+) to assist seniors. Our senior clients are dedicated dog owners who need a little (or sometimes a lot of) help caring for their canine companions. ElderDog volunteers primarily provide dog walking services to seniors who are unable to get out and exercise their dogs. Help keep love in the home!
COVID-19 Vaccination Required Yes
Training Details Volunteers are required to complete 4 steps:

Step 1: Completion of a volunteer application. This can be found on our website: www.elderdog.ca/Volunteer.
Return your completed form via email to: elderdogvictoria@gmail.com

Step 2: Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check through your local police department. A letter from ElderDog is required and will be provided to you upon completion of step #1.

Because this is a background check for a volunteer position through a charitable organization, there is no cost to you to obtain this check.

Step 3: Submission of a photo (headshot/selfie) that will be used to create a personal ID badge.

Step 4: Attendance at a (virtual) orientation session. An invitation to upcoming sessions will be sent to you once your application form is received.
Working Conditions Volunteers choose when and where they wish to walk. We maintain a database of eligible volunteers and when a new client & dog come in to the program, we send an email out to all the volunteers. This notice provides the need: what type of dog, what neighbourhood the senior lives in, how often the dog needs walking, how long the dog needs to be walked, etc. If the volunteer is interested in being matched with the dog, they simply email us back.
