Position Animal Care Foster
Impact Statement The mission of the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) is to protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia.

Wild ARC is a wild animal rehabilitation centre operated by the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. As the only wildlife rehabilitation centre on southern Vancouver Island, Wild ARC treats 3,000 wild animals annually from throughout the region.

Wild ARC's mission is to provide humane care to injured, orphaned, and sick wildlife based on established rehabilitation standards and the animal's natural history. Each patient is treated individually and assessed for eventual release back into the wild. Wild ARC also aims to educate the public about wildlife, animal welfare, and co-existing with nature, as over 80% of the wild animals treated at Wild ARC are impacted by human activity. 
Description Provide sick, injured, abandoned, and underage animals (cats, dogs, rabbits etc.) with a safe and enriching home environment to stay in temporarily until they find their forever home.

- Provide a suitable environment that meets the animal’s needs
- Meet the animal’s 5 freedoms including providing food and water
- Spend quality time with foster animals daily by providing enrichment activities, play, grooming/petting, and exercise.
- Transport the animal to/ from the shelter and veterinarian appointments
- Submit weekly care reports and communicate urgently when an animal requires veterinary attention

- Spend quality time in the company of animals
- Gain skills and experience working with animals
- Make a direct impact on an animal's life
- All food, supplies and equipment needed is provided

Training Details Online orientation to the organization & volunteer database
Virtual training in animal welfare & behaviour especially reducing fear, anxiety, stress and frustration
Foster care handbook and virtual training
Ongoing support & coaching from shelter staff
Working Conditions Working remotely from own home. Occasional travel to and from shelter and medical appointment as needed.

Timing Anytime
Time Detail On call position as fosters are needed. Fostering usually last between 1-16 weeks depending on the type of animal.
