Position: Leisure Assistance Program
Impact Statement: Helping people with disabilities have the confidence to get out and be involved in our community.
Description: The Leisure Assistance Program provides opportunities for all persons with a disability to become involved in community leisure activities and programs. This volunteer position involves being matched on a one-on-one basis (same gender) with a person with a disability who has similar recreation and leisure interests. Once matched, you and the participant will have the opportunity to do activities that you both enjoy. Common activities include swimming, walking, hiking, shopping, fitness classes, arts and crafts, working out at the gym, going to the movies or going for coffee and chatting.

Leisure Assistants provide motivation, encouragement and assistance (whether that be physical, social, mental or emotional) to the person with the disability. No experience is required. As a representative of Recreation Integration Victoria (RIV), our Leisure Assistants must be motivated, reliable, responsible and enthusiastic individuals, wanting to make a difference in the life of someone else.
Training Details: Volunteer Orientations will take place where we go over specific details on how to support a persons with a disability.
Minimum Duration: 3 months or less
Timing: Anytime
Time Detail: The time you volunteer depends on when it best suits you
