Description: Goal & Purpose of Volunteer Assignment:
Provide care for a brief but severe episode of illness, or for conditions that result from disease, trauma,or surgery; ranging from basic primary care to complex surgery.
Purpose: Volunteers provide information and reassurance, support, and resources for families/friends of patients and enhance guest relations for the Emergency Department.
Volunteers will act as a liaison between families/visitors and the Emergency Department staff
Training Details: 8 hours of online training

Area Orientation with Clinic Nurse Educator
New Emergency Volunteers are assigned a Mentor, who is usually the Volunteer Team Leader or an experienced volunteer.
The two will meet with the Manager of Volunteer Resources for initial training.
Further training with Mentor Volunteer is available if required.
Participate in regular team meeting and refresher training
Working Conditions: Emergency Volunteers are encouraged to have a 3 hour shift on weekdays.
Minimum Duration: 7 - 12 months
Timing: Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime, Weekend - Evening
Time Detail: Shifts are 3 hours long.The first shift begins 10 a.m., and the latest shift ends at 10 p.m., 7 days per week. There are 4 shifts per day. Each volunteer commits to a minimum of one shift per week.
