OrganizationThe Bateman Foundation
Position: Gallery Docent
Impact Statement: The Robert Bateman Foundation is dedicated to helping individuals and groups interpret and appreciate the natural world around them through the lens of art. Our volunteers are vital in helping us to educate the public about the natural world and sharing in our interest in introducing the public to the inspirational world of Robert Bateman. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our environment, and to share your love of learning with visitors.
Description: Docents provide a friendly face and plenty of information to our visitors. Docents are responsible for being on the gallery floor – interacting with the public, answering questions, and helping to keep an eye on the safety of our artwork. Docents are also sometimes asked to help with simple tasks (wrapping calendars, folding booklets, etc.). and minor cleaning tasks (sweeping debris from the gallery floor etc.). As a support to our front-line staff, our docents help to continue the Bateman Experience into/through the gallery.

This may be right for you if you:

- Are interested in Robert Bateman’s art, life, and philosophy.
- Know about artistic techniques and styles.
- Are passionate about the Bateman Foundation’s message.
- Like passing your knowledge onto others.
- Knowledge of Downtown Victoria and ability to speak other languages an asset.
