OrganizationTogether Against Poverty Society
Position Front Desk Support Volunteer - Ongoing
Location 828 View Street, Victoria, BC, Canada
Impact Statement Together Against Poverty Society (TAPS) is the largest anti-poverty organization on Vancouver Island and one of Greater Victoria's largest providers of free, face-to-face legal advocacy. TAPS is a recognized leader and resource for citizens, community groups, and social agencies attempting to reduce poverty, serving over 7,000 individuals each year.

As the first connection that clients make when reaching out to TAPS, our front desk volunteers are the face of the organization. They are a crucial component to the operation of the office, providing invaluable administrative support to TAPS staff and ensuring that clients are connected with appropriate support.
Description Front Desk support volunteers help clients complete TAPS’s tax paperwork, photocopy documents, and help in a variety of administrative roles. Due to demand for services fluctuating, Front Desk support volunteers can expect weekly shifts from February-April, and as-needed shifts from May-January. As your skills grow and develop, there will be opportunities to transition into a Front Desk reception role.
Training Details We provide extensive hands-on training and as well as continued support and a welcoming team environment. Volunteers will attend a classroom style training session that may be one-on-one or group based, depending on how many volunteers are being onboarded. They will then have the opportunity to shadow their volunteer coordinator and/or more experienced volunteers before beginning to take shifts on their own.

We do not require any experience and provide training for all volunteers. We value lived experience! This position is a great opportunity for folks pursuing careers in non-profit work and/or social services as you become very familiar with local resources, as well as gaining administrative experience.
Working Conditions The TAPS office is very busy, particularly during tax season. All volunteers will have the continuous support of staff for any questions, issues, or challenges as they arise.
