Position: ECO Camp Helper - ECO Camp (Educating Children Outdoors) Various weeks Summer 2019
Location: Gordon Head Recreation Centre, Lambrick Way, Victoria, BC, Canada
Impact Statement: Mission: To strengthen and connect community through recreation volunteerism.
Description: This nature-based preschool camp is an exciting and unique community partnership designed to explore the use of the Beaver/Elk Lake Park or Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary as a home for the preschool -aged summer camp. Games, crafts, exploring, using our senses to gain knowledge and have fun, ECO Camp Helpers assist in delivering this mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Learn the names of the participants
• Follow the lead of staff
• Initiate games, introduce activities, attend to campers when they isolate
• Observe interactions of participants, re-directing when needed
• Model appropriate behavior and language
• Assist staff with set-up and take-down of activities and clean-up of space
• Provide additional supervision
• Converse, play with and engage children ages 3 – 5 years
• Report anything of concern to staff
Training Details: Knowledge, Skill and Qualification Requirements:
• 14 years or older
• Proficient in the English language
• Clear current Criminal Records Check or Police Information Check
• Excellent communication
• Enthusiastic, well-organized, willing to learn
• Love working with children
• Love nature and working outdoors
• Appropriate personal boundaries when working with children
• Provide own water bottle, snack and dress for the weather
Orientation and Training (provided):
• Volunteer Application (Liability Waiver, Code of Conduct, Policies for Volunteers and Contractors)
• Child Protection/Vulnerable Persons Training
• Supervisor Meet and Match Interview
• Site and Role Orientation
Working Conditions: Commitment and schedule: Weekly commitment Monday through Friday. Shifts are generally in the mornings for approximately 3 to 4 hours. Scheduling is flexible and will be decided upon between volunteer and Program Technician.
Minimum Duration: 3 months or less
Timing: Weekday - Daytime
Time Detail: Monday to Thursday 8:45am-12:15pm
