About the Position
Position #: 1879
OrganizationParent Support Services Society of BC (PSS)
Position: Volunteer Support Circle Facilitator - Parents Support Circle and Grandparents Raising Grandchildren/Kinship Care Providers Support Circle
Impact Statement: Our Vision: A world where all children and their families are nurtured, valued and safe.

Guiding Principle: We support families and their rights in this way because we value inclusion, social justice, and collaboration. We believe that, when we work together and learn from each other, these values can transform conflict into understanding; that understanding can transform hurt-filled households into healthy homes; and that healthy families can transform unjust societies into strong communities.

Our Mission is supported by:

- Creating safe places for parents, grandparents and care providers to meet, share and learn, and providing them with support in dealing with crisis or injustice
- Working with other organizations that serve families and creating and providing resource materials for families
- Carrying out research on emerging parenting, grandparenting and kinship care issues, and working for legislative and administrative changes
Description: As a volunteer Support Circle facilitator you will co-facilitate either a Parent or Grandparent Raising Grandchildren (GRG)/Kinship Care Support Circle with another trained volunteer facilitator. The Circles are self-help/peer support spaces where Circle members are the experts in their lives and the strength of the support comes from Circle members sharing experiences, strategies and support with each other.

Parents, grandparents and other caregivers from differing cultures and life paths can learn from one another; a diverse group gives members a chance to practice non-judgmental support and self-acceptance.

The Role of the Volunteer Support Circle Facilitator:

Volunteer facilitators are the heart of our circle programs. We rely on you to work with parents, grandparents, and other caregivers, in creating a safe and empowering group environment, and to model supportive, respectful ways of dealing with people and problems.
