Position CLASSIC BOAT FESTIVAL: Festival Ambassador / Dock Volunteer - Classic Boat Festival
Impact Statement The Maritime Museum of BC is proud to host the annual Victoria Classic Boat Festival (September 4 – 6)! For over 40 years, the Victoria Classic Boat Festival has showcased classic boats from all over the Pacific Northwest each Labour Day Weekend. Each year, approximately 10,000 visitors tour the docks and the boats on display. In 2017, the Maritime Museum of BC took over operations of the Festival, incorporating marine-related exhibitions and family-friendly programs into the weekend’s activities.

The Festival is run by Museum staff, Board members, and dedicated volunteers. With the tremendous support of volunteers, the Museum is able to continue to preserve BC's maritime heritage and to engage people with this ongoing story.
Description 1. Docks Volunteer: In our bright yellow shirts, we are very visible to the public and to the boaters. We are asked questions, help people to find particular boats and provide over all safety and security on the docks. This position is 4 hours long, and works between the main floats in front of the Empress, and the Ship Point docks.

2. Donations Volunteer: This position involves standing at the top of the dock, asking people for a donation as they enter the festival, and handing out programs and stickers to everyone. This takes place at the top of the dock at the Empress floats, and also at Ship Point where the Marketplace is.

3. Volunteer Check in and Support: Located at the Maritime Museum where we will base our Volunteer Headquarters, this position will be waiting to greet the volunteers as they check in and out of their shift.
Training Details An information session will be held on Thursday, August 27 or Tuesday, September 1 at 5:30pm. Volunteers do not have to attend both sessions, but may attend the one that is most convenient to them. This session is about 15 - 30 minutes.

Upon arrival at the Festival, the Volunteer Coordinator will greet you and introduce you to your station for further training. Training should be no more than 15 minutes.
Working Conditions Volunteers will be expected to work outdoors. Sunscreen and coverage are encouraged, as the weather is typically sunny.

Tshirt, lunch, snacks, and water are provided.
