Position Big Brothers - Community Mentoring Program
Impact Statement Make a BIG difference by giving a LITTLE time. Spend two to four hours each week helping a child/youth reach their full potential. Have fun together, encourage them to try new things, talk to one another, and become friends.
Description Our volunteer mentors are caring and responsible individuals who:
- Model honesty, truth and respect for others.
- Have a genuine concern, interest, and enthusiasm for children and youth.

We ask you to provide the names of three to four references. They should be 19+ years of age and be able to speak to your character. We need:

- Spouse/Partner or Family Reference.
- Personal Reference, i.e. long-time friend, neighbor, colleague, etc.
- Employer/Supervisor Reference, past or present workplace.
- Vulnerable Sector Reference. Only if you have worked/volunteered with children, people with disabilities or elderly persons in the last 5 years

Volunteer Mentors don't need:
- Money - we encourage no/low cost activities.
- Experience - your interest, enthusiasm and genuine concern for children are what matters most.
- A vehicle - we can match you with a child/youth who lives close by.
Training Details Volunteer mentors are required to attend an orientation/training session, COVID-19 training and you will also be invited to on-going workshops once you are matched with a child. You'll have a trained staff member supporting you at all times. No experience necessary.
Working Conditions You and your mentee will be spending time together from a virtual platform (telephone, face-time, Skype, etc) until the restrictions from COVID-19 have been lifted. Once that occurs you can meet with your mentee anywhere in the community - this includes your home, movie theatre, beach, playground, recreation centres - wherever you both enjoy spending time.
Minimum Duration More than 1 year
Timing Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime, Weekend - Evening
