Your role will promote positive interactions between law enforcement and residents, encouraging dialogue, trust, and understanding. Without volunteers this position can not run.
Description
Whether in the ACE Mascot costume or being the ACE handler, ACE Team members will be assigned to different events throughout Saanich and Greater Victoria. Members will represent the Saanich Police by being welcoming, warm, friendly and adhering to the SPD Mission Statement. ACE is non-verbal and interacts with the public with hand (paw)gestures. ACE Handler insures that the ACE is safe and is their eyes and years.
Training Details
You will get hands on training, you will be able to try out the costume to see how it works and get comfortable with it. Both positions come with training manuals you can take home and we also include job shadowing as part of our training so your first event will be with an experienced volunteer so that you can learn in an actual event environment.
Working Conditions
The Ace costume is HOT and requires a minimum height of 5'7" due to the design of the costume. Being the handler does not require any height requirement and is about being aware and observant. Class 5 licence is required to transport Ace to events. If you are under 19 a special consent form will need to be signed by a parent or guardian.

ACE can be requested during the weekdays,evenings and weekends. We require several volunteers for each position as we get a lot of requests for ACE in the community. ACE attends charity events including runs, walks, polar plunge, road hockey tournaments, birthdays, community events and other events.
