Position: Mobile Health Clinic Volunteer - Doctors of the World Mobile Health Clinic
Impact Statement: By volunteering with the Doctors of the World Mobile Health Clinic volunteers are able to assist some of our most vulnerable and marginalized community members to access primary health care and harm reduction services. Community members can include, but not limited to: youth, people experiencing homelessness and/or poverty, people with substance use disorder and/or mental health concerns.
Description: The Nurse onboard the clinic offers services such as wound care, health screening, and other basic health care.
The Mobile Health Clinic volunteer tasks can include:
• welcome people and manage requests to see the nurse
• input confidential information using a laptop computer
• package vitamins and medications
• respond to questions from neighbors, passers-by, and people in need of services
• distribute harm reduction material
Volunteers do NOT need to have a degree or a health care background.
The most important requirements are for volunteers to be approachable, respectful, non-judgmental and to maintain confidentiality at all times
Training Details: Must attend an Information Session prior to commencing volunteering
Working Conditions: Volunteer tasks are undertaken inside and outside the Mobile Health Clinic vehicle, this involves standing and sitting. The role involves frequent communication with the nurse, members of the community and people accessing the clinic. The volunteer uses a laptop computer to record basic information. The Mobile Health Clinic attends various locations, each with different physical environments.
Minimum Duration: 3 months or less
Timing: Anytime
Time Detail: volunteer shifts between 2-4 hours, various times including early mornings, daytime and evenings
