Position IPAL (Intergenerational Physical Activity Leadership) Playground Leader - IPAL

Impact Statement To strengthen and connect community through recreation volunteerism.
Description IPAL is a program that brings together elementary school students from Marigold Elementary Schoolsecondary student from the Spectrum Secondary School Athletic Leadership Program and older adults from our community. Together, these three demographics are trained to lead “old school” playground games during lunch or recess break on the Marigold Elementary school playground. The Playground Leader facilitates playground games in collaboration with older students for Grade K-4 students. IPAL will begin in late September early October. The program begins with a two-hour training session and then runs through Fall during the school-day for approximately 30-60 minute time blocks. Specific dates and times to be shared in September. Training Details Knowledge, Skill and Qualification Requirements:
• 55 years or older
• Enjoys interacting appropriately with children and youth
• Ability to move freely and monitor own wellness
• Previous involvement with leading children and youth is an asset
• Clear current Criminal Records Check or Police Information Check

Orientation and Training (provided):
• Volunteer Application (Liability Waiver, Code of Conduct, Policies for Volunteers and Contractors)
• Child Protection/Vulnerable Persons Training
• Supervisor Meet and Match Interview
• Site and Role Orientation
Working Conditions Duties and Responsibilities:
• Help to facilitate “old school” games, provided, on the school playground
• Participate in two training sessions (2 hours each)
• To be cooperative, outgoing, flexible and fun on the playground in a team environment
Commitment and schedule: 1-4 days/week for 6 weeks for 30-45 minutes during morning recess or lunch break.

Working Conditions: Outdoor. Standing and moving on grass, dirt, concrete. Staff-supervised.
