Your time will impact both the dogs in need of care and the seniors who love them - enhancing two (or more!) lives with each volunteer activity. Seniors’ lives are filled with change and ElderDog Canada helps with this by keeping dogs with their families as long as possible. | Description |
You MUST LOVE DOGS for this volunteer position! Walking dogs is the most common way we help but volunteers are also needed to do some light grooming, deliver food, transport dogs to and from vet/ grooming appointments, foster. Have you read this far?? Start stocking up on dog treats! To be part of the team you will need: • To provide a criminal record check. • Interpersonal skills that include compassion, caring, tact, and discretion. • To be able to chat with the dog’s people - you may be the only person they see that day. • Access to a computer/tablet/smartphone and the ability to email. • Enthusiasm! (Who wouldn’t be enthused when working with dogs?!) |
| Training Details | We provide orientation videos and materials, with ongoing support from your Volunteer Coordinator and Dog Care Support Coordinators. |
| Working Conditions | Once your application is approved, you will begin receiving weekly emails describing dogs who need help in the Saanich to Sidney area. This will help you choose a dog to help that matches with you (dog size, temperament, day of the week, etc.). Read a few emails and choose a dog as your match! A dating app it's NOT, but there are similarities! Dogs need walks rain or shine, so be prepared to put on a raincoat or snowboots to walk your ElderDog! |
