Are you a confident computer, tablet or smartphone user? Share these skills with others by tutoring 1:1 with Victoria Literacy Connection ("VLC" for short)! In-person tutors are in-demand as we resumed face-to-face lessons in summer/22. In-person tutors must be at least 19 years of age. Topics may include: Basic computer, tablet or smartphone use. Online safety. Digital forms. Video chat and social media. Online banking, bill payments or shopping. And more! VLC promotes a learner-centered approach, customizing lessons to each learner. Adult learners of all ages participate for free! VLC strives to be an inclusive and welcoming place for all. Our diverse learners come from many backgrounds, lived experiences and ages. Our youngest learner in this program so far is 20 and our eldest is 94! The average age of learners is 70. Volunteers must be a resident in Greater Victoria for in-person, and Canada for remote lessons. |
Training Details | Orientation and ongoing support provided by VLC. |
Working Conditions |
In-person (in a public location) or remote via Zoom; flexible schedules; meet 1-2x/week with 1 learner for an hour each lesson. |

Time Detail | Tutors and learners arrange their own schedule together. Generally, 1-2 sessions per week for approximately 1 hour each, plus a bit of planning time between sessions. |
