On Friday November 12, 1982. founders Murray and Edna Black opened The Soup Kitchen to welcome hungry local residents in need of a safe haven, to be nourished without judgement, Today, 43 years later, their fierce dedication to making a difference in the lives of those in need continues as a comfort, and in some instances a lifeline, for the downtown community. The Society is a registered non-profit,non-denominational charity. Located at 740 View Street Victoria, it is open Monday to Friday – including all holidays. It is the oldest, completely volunteer-run food resource for those in need in Victoria. |
Description |
We Need You -The Soup Kitchen on View Street urgently needs volunteers to prepare soup in a 70-litre kettle, using precut ingredients on mornings from 5:00 – 6:30 am. No cooking experience is necessary, but you must be able to lift heavy pots. This could be a one or two person role. A Food Safe certificate and Criminal Records check are needed, with the cost of both covered by The Soup Kitchen. |
