As the first connection that clients make when reaching out to TAPS, our front desk volunteers are the face of the organization. They are a crucial component to the operation of the office, providing invaluable administrative support to TAPS staff and ensuring that clients are connected with appropriate support. We are always in need of folks to work on our front desk, welcoming clients to the office, taking messages, and answering the phone. This job is vitally important to our organization and is a great way to learn and gain experience as you will quickly get a comprehensive feel for the work that TAPS does. |
| Description |
Front desk volunteers work at our reception desk, welcoming clients to the office, answering the phone, and providing referrals to other organizations as needed. This is an engaging role, with some complexities, and one that is vitally important to the day-to-day functioning of TAPS. Time commitment: 3-6 hours of training and then one 3 hour shift per week. |
| Training Details |
We provide extensive hands-on training and as well as continued support and a welcoming team environment. Volunteers will attend a classroom style training session that may be one-on-one or group based, depending on how many volunteers are being onboarded. They will then have the opportunity to shadow their volunteer coordinator and/or more experienced volunteers before beginning to take shifts on their own. We do not require any reception experience and provide training for all volunteers. We value lived experience! This position is a great opportunity for folks pursuing careers in non-profit work and/or social services as you become very familiar with local resources, as well as gaining administrative experience. This position is also ideal for anyone who is retired, and is looking to give back in a meaningful way. |
| Working Conditions | The TAPS office is very busy, particularly during tax season. All volunteers will have the continuous support of staff for any questions, issues, or challenges as they arise. Volunteers have a choice of chair to sit at, and will be using a handheld phone, as well as a laptop for communication. Due to the naature of the work, it is entirely within the TAPS office. |
