Description
The Volunteer Leisure Assistant will assist paid staff delivering fitness programming at Gordon Head Recreation Centre by working one-on-one with an older adult participant who requires additional social support to participate in the program. Successful applicants will be added to a pool of volunteers, and will be contacted when a participant in need registers for a program matching their availability. Qualifications: 19 years old or older, have an understanding of dementia, have a background in health and fitness. Prior experience working with clients with dementia and/or mobility challenges an asset. All applicants must be willing to complete a Police Information Check and a Vulnerable Persons training module (online, ~30 minutes).
Training Details
All volunteers will complete a Vulnerable Persons training module (online, ~30 minutes) and receive an onsite orientation to Gordon Head Recreation Centre and the volunteer role.
Working Conditions
Indoors. Volunteers will be in close proximity with others and will need to stand and move around during the program. Supervised by staff.
