Impact Statement The CFB ESQUIMALT NAVAL & MILITARY MUSEUM preserves, interprets and displays the history and heritage of the Royal Canadian Navy on Canada’s West Coast, and of the military on Southern Vancouver Island. Our museum highlights 4 military groups: CANADA’S NAVY ON THE WEST COAST; THE CANADIAN WOMEN’S ARMY CORPS (CWAC); WOMEN’S ROYAL CANADIAN NAVAL SERVICE (WRCNS); THE WEST COAST DEFENCES"
Description If you are a natural born story-teller and enjoy speaking in front of a crowd, this role is for you. Tour Guides lead booked groups through the Esquimalt Navy and Military Museum, share stories and local naval history. While previous naval/military knowledge isn’t essential it is an asset. Tours typically are 45 minutes to 1 hour in length.
Training Details You'll first work as a front-of-house volunteer/Docent answering questions and getting familiar with our museum. Afterwards, you'll shadow 2 different tour guides to get a feel of the program we offer then, you'll craft your own personal tour.
Working Conditions As a Tour Guide volunteer, you will be expected to…
- Give a comprehensive, informative, entertaining tours
- Speak clearly and comfortably in-front of a group of people
- Be able to think on your feet
- Be able to stand/walk for up to an hour at a time
