Description The Dockhand (Community Animator) Program is a unique volunteer opportunity that welcomes anyone interested enriching the social impact at TheDock Center for Social Impact. TheDock is Vancouver Island’s social impact hub providing: offices, workspace, meeting space, event services, learning opportunities, and connection for Vancouver Island changemakers.

Position Duties:

Front-desk and general reception duties.
Helping members and event attendees navigate the space.
Participating in community events.
Assisting members inquiries and IT.
Light upkeep of the space.
Custom projects suited to the volunteer's skillset.
Building community offerings and clubs.
Attending monthly Dockhand Gatherings.

Details

Part-time, 5x hour weekly commitment, 3-6 month term (minimum).

Compensation

24/7 access hotdesking membership at TheDock, 260 meeting room credits, mentorship, industry certificate, community discounts.
Training Details 1x 1.5 hour onboarding presentation and 1x 5 hour training shift covered by dock personal. Paid staff will always be available for questions or re-training during all volunteer shifts.

Accessibility:

theDock is on both the 1st and 3rd floor of 722 Cormorant Street. Access to the 3rd floor is by elevator and theDock has an even floor throughout. There are two individual wheelchair-accessible washrooms. All bathrooms are gender neutral. We are able to provide a variety of seating options as needed, including folding chairs and space on the floor. There is free on-street parking available on Cormorant Street after 8 PM, directly in front of the building and several accessible transit options nearby.

Timing Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
Time Detail Dockhands are given a recurring shift time on a weekday either in the morning or afternoon. Weekend and evening shifts are available flexibly.
Morning Shifts 8:30am - 1:30pm
Afternoon Shifts 1:00pm - 6:00pm
