Impact Statement The CHCS operates Carr House National and Provincial Heritage site in order to ensure the house is open to the public and that the space encourages community building and continuation of the main themes of Emily Carr's life including art, creativity and environmentalism.
Description Are you passionate about museums and heritage? Do you love art, art history, literature, or creative pursuits as a whole? We would love to have you join our team at Carr House, the birthplace and childhood home of Emily Carr! In this role, volunteers work with members of the public, answering their questions and assisting in the gift shop. They develop a strong base of knowledge about Emily Carr, the Carr family, and early Victoria, while also honing retail and communication skills. This position is perfect for anyone 15+ who is excited about heritage and eager to learn more about Emily Carr!

Volunteers are also offered the opportunity to learn and deliver guided tours of the home. This role requires a greater investment of time and effort, but it is a lot of fun, and is perfect for those who want to deep-dive into history, or who are exploring work in heritage.
Training Details Once a Volunteer Applicant has been confirmed, Carr House staff will provide all of the training necessary to perform the role, and work with volunteers to help them find specific areas of interest to pursue.
Working Conditions Front of House Volunteers work inside Carr House, answering visitor questions, providing directions, and looking after the gift shop. They will work alongside onsite staff, who will provide direction and support.
Carr House's bottom floor, where the gift shop is located, is wheelchair accessible, however, the home's second floor is accessible by stair only. For those for whom accessibility is a concern, we will work with you to accommodate your needs!
Minimum Duration 3 months or less
Timing Weekday - Daytime, Weekend - Daytime
Time Detail We encourage a comittment of at least 3 months, but we are open to discussing and accomodating your needs! Carr House volunteers typically come for 2 hour shifts, 1-2 times per week, but this schedule is flexible.
