| Impact Statement | OPS has evolved from an inner-city community centre founded on the principles of hope and belonging to an integrated organization serving Greater Victoria’s most vulnerable, including people struggling with homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use issues, the working poor and impoverished elderly. These members of our community are fondly referred to as the OPS Family. Broad-based and committed community support allows OPS to provide over 1,000 meals every day plus snacks, 450 units of housing plus transitional shelter spaces, hot showers, education, job skills training, health care, addiction recovery services, clothing, counselling, outreach services and a downtown storage facility. Most importantly, OPS provides a continuum of care and a sense of hope and community to those who need it most. OPS programs and services are delivered by experienced and caring staff and hundreds of dedicated volunteers. |
| Description |
Laundry Service Volunteers play an important role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in Victoria. Access to clean clothing and linens can have a significant impact on a person's health, dignity, comfort, and sense of well-being. Volunteers help provide this essential service to community members accessing support through Our Place Society. Working alongside staff, volunteers assist with laundry intake, operating laundry equipment, organizing and distributing clean items, and maintaining a safe and welcoming laundry space. Volunteers are often one of the first points of contact for participants and help foster an environment where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. |
