B You Volunteer Mentors Needed - B You Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Program
Impact Statement
B You Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Program: Empowering students to thrive. When young girls and gender-diverse youth are experiencing adversities and challenges in their lives, supportive mentoring relationships can help them develop resilience. The immediate and long-term effects of difficulties at school, at home, and with themselves can be reduced with the support, guidance, and inclusion provided by our mentoring program. The program focuses on empowering female-identifying and gender-diverse youth to take care of their bodies, their minds, and each other. The group provides students a safe space to have fun at school while trying new things, learning about self-compassion, and sharing with their peers.
Description
Three to four female-identifying mentors (17-30 years old) are matched with a small group of female-identifying youth (Grades 6 to 8) and meet in-person during school hours. Each weekly session is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours long and some additional preparation time is required as well. Mentors are asked to commit to volunteering for two 10-week sessions in the 2024-2025 school year.
