Craigdarroch Castle is owned and operated by the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society, a private non-profit charity. The Castle Society’s charitable mission is to protect, restore, and preserve the Castle while bringing its stories to life. We hold National Historic Site status, but we are not affiliated with Parks Canada, nor do we receive federal or provincial funding. We welcome thousands of visitors each year from all over the world. This means that when you work or volunteer at Craigdarroch, you are acting as an ambassador for the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society, as well as Victoria, British Columbia, and even Canada!
Description
Our docents provide visitors with a great experience inside the Castle. The position involves learning about the history of the Castle and sharing its story with our visitors. Not only do docents tell the story of the Dunsmuir family (the family who built the Castle), they also provide information on the other institutions that have occupied the building since (Military hospital, college, music conservatory, museum). Docents are stationed throughout the Castle to answer visitor questions, provide directions, and to bring the Castles stories to life.
