Description As an Activity Assistant, you will work with senior residents and adult day program members who have cognitive and physical challenges and collaborate with various health care team members to plan, implement, and participate activities for seniors. In particular, Activity Assistants help our seniors stay active and engaged. Volunteers engage in various activities including arts, crafts, exercise, music, and mah jong playing as well as outdoor activity. Volunteers must have patience and the ability to motivate reluctant participants to join activities. Parent/guardian consents are required for volunteers who are underage to allow such participation on an ongoing basis. Adult supervisions are needed.
Training Details Volunteers with VCC can expect to receive a thorough orientation to the Centre, to our Mission, Vision, and Values, pertinent policies, and to receive safety training.
Working Conditions Activities mostly occur indoor, and outdoor activities are usually scheduled and planned ahead of time. Volunteers are asked to have a clean and tidy appearance, to wear conservative clothing, do not wear bulky jewelry that hangs down from your neck or ears (safety issue) and wear shoes with closed toes and heels for their own safety.
