Position English tutor (ESL/ELL) - English Conversation Groups or 1:1 Tutoring
Impact Statement Support English Language Learners of all ages to gain the communication skills necessary to function in our local society.

Learners may be newcomers to Canada (i.e., immigrants or refugees), or citizens who need to improve their English skills.

Support English language learners of all ages remotely or in person through our English Conversation Groups or 1:1 tutoring.

VLC uses a learner-centered approach. Collaborate with the learner(s) about their unique goals and challenges.
Participants may come to VLC with varying English skills, and the tutor will adapt strategies to meet their needs.

Reporting to the program coordinator, the volunteer tutor will submit Quarterly Reports and regular check-ins.

1:1 matches will arrange their own schedules. Group classes meet twice per week for 6-8 weeks.

Volunteers agree to abide by all VLC policies and guidelines.
Training Details Orientation and ongoing support is provided by VLC.
Working Conditions Remote or in-person. Remote sessions require a computer with camera capable of hosting Zoom sessions, and a strong, reliable internet connection. In-person 1:1 sessions happen in a public space (e.g. VLC office, library, etc.).
Minimum Duration 7 - 12 months
Timing Anytime
Time Detail For 1:1 tutoring the schedule will be set between the learner and tutor - generally 1-2 sessions/week for an hour ongoing. Group sessions are twice per week for 6-8 weeks.

Small Group classes generally run 2x/week for 6 weeks.
