Mentor to a Single Mom - MOMentum: Moms & Mentors Program
Location
602 Gorge Road East, Victoria, BC, Canada
Impact Statement
Volunteer mentors actively support single mothers by offering them an open ear and emotional support. Moms benefit from hearing about someone else's experience, and from having a person to turn to. It empowers and inspires mentees to have someone to lean on. Our program attendees have told us that it can have a life-altering impact, and many life-long friendships have been formed.
Description
1Up Single Parent Resource Centre, Moms and Mentors program needs volunteer female mentors with parenting experience to offer support and guidance to isolated single mothers of all ages. As a volunteer mentor, you will be matched with a single mom and her children for a one-on-one match. Matched pairs spend about two hours per week together: discussing parenting issues, working on personal goals, going for coffee or walks, and enjoying fun activities. If you are a good listener, interested in learning more about yourself and others, and have a caring, non-judgmental approach, this volunteer role may be a good fit for you.
