Position Donation Sorting Volunteer - Sandy Merriman House
Impact Statement Cool Aid's vision is a community where no one is forced to sleep on the street or go hungry and everyone has the dignity that comes with home, health and connection. That's why we work to create hope and opportunities for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. We offer a range of services, including affordable housing, emergency shelters, primary health and dental care, nutritious meals, and wellness programs such as recreation, employment, and volunteer opportunities. Our dedicated staff and volunteers support over 12,000 individuals annually across 20 locations in Victoria, Saanich, and Langford. We provide housing and support to more people experiencing homelessness in our community than any other organization.
Description Sandy Merriman House provides emergency shelter for women who are homeless. We welcome trans women, gender fluid and non-binary people. The sorting volunteer accepts donations, moves them to the storage room, and sorts them into the correct bins or cupboards.
Training Details Online modules followed by in-person training and support.
Working Conditions Women's shelter donation room. Please note that this role does involve lifting and walking donations down a set of stairs.
Minimum Duration 4 - 6 months
Timing Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
Time Detail We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular weekly shift for a minimum of 3 months. The shift is on Tuesdays from 10 AM - 12 PM pm.
